Itinerary

May 14—15 We will have an evening departure aboard a Delta flight, non-stop to London. Upon arrival we will be met by our local tour guide who will be with us for the duration of the trip. We will see city highlight at his discretion, with a stop for lunch on your own at Piccadilly Circus. In mid-afternoon we will check into our hotel, the Doubletree London Westminster for an early dinner and restful evening.

May 16 After breakfast at the hotel we will begin our day in the Imperial War Museum, which includes a visit to Churchill’s Bunker. We will also take a cruise on the Thames River, down to Greenwich, England and finish our sightseeing with a tour of the Tower of London, including a visit to the Crown Jewels. The evening is free to explore the area or take in a play.

May 17 Today we will see all the special sights we have not gotten to, such as the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and a visit to Westminster Abbey. You will also have free time for shopping, taking pictures of phone booths and bobbies and jumping aboard a double-decker bus.

May 18 On this day we head for the coast—to Portsmouth, where much of the D-Day Armada was launched. We will visit the Historic Dockyard and the D-Day Museum. Our accommodations for the evening will be the Best Western Royal Seaside Hotel.

May 19 The highlight of the morning will be a ferry ride across the English Channel, toward Cherbourg. We will travel to Bayeux where we will spend three nights at the historic Lion D’Or Hotel in the heart of the Medieval village, just steps away from the massive Cathedral of Bayeux and the facility that houses the Bayeux tapestry. Bayeux will serve as our headquarters as we explore all the Normandy landing beaches, the Normandy arromanches—the man-made harbors vital to the landing, the American and German cemeteries, and a plethora of villages and museums associated with the D-Day invasion and the Battle of Normandy.

May 20 Further exploration of Normandy. Exact day-by-day schedule TBD.

May 21 Further exploration of Normandy. Exact day-by-day schedule TBD.

May 22 Today we head to Paris—City of Lights—that was liberated by the Allies on Aug. 25, 1944—80 days after D-Day. We will stop en route to visit Giverny, home of French master artist Claude Monet. We will spend 2 days at a Paris hotel still to be determined and while in the city we will visit the top of the Eifel Tower, take a cruise down the Seine River, visit Napoleon’s tomb at Les Invalids army museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, take a highlights tour of the Louvre, which includes the Mona Lisa and Winged Victory, and take a trip to Versailles to visit the Palace of Versailles where the dreadful treaty ending World War I—which set the stage for World War II—was negotiated.
