Chicago to Santa Monica on America’s Main Street

Now is your chance to do what everyone dreams about. Huck’s Tours is taking the ultimate American Road Trip. We will visit some of the prominent cities in America and see all the major attractions along the way—and we will also jump onto the old route wherever it exists for a giant taste of Americana along the way.

Our journey begins with a flight to Chicago where we will be met by World’s Greatest Bus Driver, Shane Clayton. We will spend two nights in Chicago where we will stay near the Magnificent Mile. There will be free time for shopping or looking, but we will also take a breathtaking architecture cruise on the Chicago River, go to the top of the Willis Tower for an unforgettable view of the city and lake Michigan, take a lake cruise, visit the Navy Pier and, of course, sample the best deep dish pizza in the world and have a steak dinner in the city that is butcher to the world.

After two days in the Windy City we will depart from 0 mile post north and head south down to St. Louis where we will spend the next two night. The Gateway Arch, the Jefferson Gateway to the West Museum, Anheuser-Busch and the National Blues Museum are a few spots on the agenda. Of course we will sample some of the classic ribs the city has to offer.

The next four days will be like going back in time as we leave the main highway almost exclusively to enjoy the kitsch of the early days of auto transportation, with overnight stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Elk City, OK and Amarillo, Texas—then on to Santa Fe, NM.

Day 9 of the trip will be spent in Winslow, AZ at the infamous La Posada Hotel, one of the most haunted locations in the world. We will be able to spend some time standing on the corner, of course.

Other stops on the route will be the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas before we fish up with two days in Santa Monica, California before flying back to Atlanta.
