Western Parks Tour, 2018
Planned Itinerary*

June 30
We will gather at Hartsfield International Airport at 8 am for our 9:45 non-stop flight aboard Delta Airlines—destination, Denver, Colorado. Upon Arrival in Denver we will board our deluxe motor coach and head for Larimore Square, the heartbeat of Denver, for lunch and a chance to stretch our legs. After lunch and a brief time for shopping and looking we will head north, toward Cheyenne, WY, our first night’s destination. We will have plenty of free time to wander the Western stores in the Wyoming capitol before enjoying a wonderful Western theme feast for dinner and bunking down for the night.

July 1
Today we will be up and at ‘em with a full breakfast at the hotel before boarding our 21st century stagecoach for Custer, SD. We will enjoy the beautiful and ever-changing scenery as we travel north, through the land of the Sioux, toward Black Hills National Forest. After a stop for lunch in Custer we will head over to Badlands National Park and enjoy some of the most amazingly unique scenery our country has to offer. We will return to Custer for the evening and will freshen up a bit before enjoying a nice meal and taking in the evening light show at Mt. Rushmore National Monument.

July 2
This morning we will enjoy breakfast at the hotel and depart on the early morning wildlife loop around Custer State Park. You will see more natural wildlife in a shorter time here than any other place you are likely to go. We are certain to see buffalo (American Bison), pronghorn antelope, white tail and mule deer, prairie dogs, hawks and eagles and all manner of birds. You will enjoy free time after lunch and may take advantage of the many activities available or just relax. The evening will bring a chuck wagon dinner and visit to the Crazy Horse carving.

July 3
Today will be our longest stint of the trip, but it won’t seem like it because we will view such amazing scenery. Think 6 hours of “Dancing with Wolves.” Our first stop of the day will be a brief visit to Deadwood, SD. We will be able to walk the streets where Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok walked, and even see the saloon where Wild Bill was shot in the back while holding a pair of aces and a pair of 8s—the Dead Man’s Hand. Our destination will be Cody, Wyoming—named for frontiersman and showman, Buffalo Bill Cody. Our evening activity will be to take in dinner and show at the renowned Cody Cattle Company.

July 4
We will celebrate Independence Day with a rip-roaring time in one of the greatest towns in the Old West. Our convenient downtown location will make it easy for you to enjoy the morning and early afternoon on your own. You will be able to shop and take in the incredible Buffalo Bill Western Museum (admission included) at your own pace. In the early evening we will enjoy a meal together before heading to the “Cowboy Christmas,” the World Famous Cody Stampede July 4 rodeo, where the best cowboys compete for some of the highest purses in the rodeo world.

July 5
Today we say goodbye to Cody and head to Yellowstone National Park, along the path that Teddy Roosevelt called the prettiest drive in America. We will have lunch at our home away from home for two nights, the famous and spectacular Old Faithful Inn. Then we will have a local guide step on our bus for a guided tour of the lower half of the park before returning to the Inn for supper and to spend the night.

July 6
On this day we will pack a lunch and our guide will take us on a tour of the Yellowstone North Country—some of the most spectacular and unspoiled scenery on earth. In the evening we will enjoy another fine meal at the Old Faithful Dining room.

July 7
We will head south out of Yellowstone today and drive through the Grand Tetons to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There will be plenty of opportunities to stop and admire and photograph the mouth-dropping scenery. There will be free time in Jackson and our accommodations are right in town so you will have easy access to the shops and bars and points of interests. We will gather for supper and then you will have the evening free.

July 8
Day two will find us heading back into Grand Teton National Park for a wildlife safari. After lunch we will have a chance to take a leisurely raft cruise down the Snake River before heading back to town for supper and entertainment by the Bar J cowboy crew.

July 9
Our destination today is Salt Lake City, Utah—with a scenic drive through Idaho. We will have a grand tour of Salt Lake City with a visit to Temple Square and an opportunity to see the Mormon Temple and visit the Mormon Tabernacle. We will have one last supper together and celebrate the great time we will have had.

July 10
Homeward Bound. Our journey comes to a conclusion as we head to the airport for our 9:40 am non-stop Delta flight to Atlanta. We should arrive home around 3:30 Atlanta time. I am looking forward to leading you on this amazing trip and hope you will join us—and tell your friends.
