Trip Itinerary (Subject to minor adjustments.)

September 8—From Athens/Conyers to Mobile, Alabama, with a brief stop in Montgomery, Alabama—the Cradle of the Confederacy. We will overnight in
Historic Downtown Mobile and visit the Mobile Mardi Gras Museum. Mobile is the home of Mardi Gras in the United States!

September 9—Today we will have breakfast at our hotel and then journey onward to New Orleans, the City that C.A.R.E. forgot. We will arrive in the city in time to enjoy an afternoon cruise on the Steamboat Natchez, with jazz music and an open bar, followed by a carriage ride through the French Quarter before checking into our French Market hotel, the Bienville House, a deluxe boutique facility just steps away from Jackson Square and World Famous Bourbon Street. We will dine at Tujague’s, the second oldest restaurant in the Crescent City.

September 10—We will have another full day in New Orleans with a tour of the National World War II and D-Day Museum in the morning, followed by lunch at Mulate’s, a city favorite, and then a free day to explore the French Quarter. In the evening we will dine at Commander’s Palace, which Frommer’s has called the “best restaurant in the world.”

September 11—You will be in for a real treat today as we motor over to Avery Island and explore the Tabasco Factory, source of every drop of Tabasco hot sauce in the world. After lunch on your own we will venture more deeply into Cajun
Country and take a swamp ride with a genuine Acadian guide before checking into our hotel and enjoying dinner at Prejean’s.

September 12—We will head east toward Natchez today with a visit to the Louisiana Statehouse, Huey Long’s pride and joy, and a brief stop on the Mississippi before continuing on to Natchez for our first mansion tour and a fine Southern style dinner.

September 13—We will have an opportunity to sleep in a little this morning before exploring all the best spots in Natchez, including Rosalie Mansion and Stanton Hall.

September 14—Today we will take in the first half of the Natchez Trace and enjoy the beautiful serenity of the parkway, stopping at historic spots along the way for brief walks and photo ops. We will visit Elvis Presley’s birth site before bedding down in Tupelo, MS.

September 15—Today is the final leg of the Natchez Trace, including a visit to Davy Crockett State Park and an overnight stay in Music City, Nashville, TN.

September 16—Homeward bound, but not without a stop of two along the way for more good food and a little extra fun—arriving back home in the early afternoon.
