Based on the trail drive of Augustus McCrae and Woodrow McCall from the magnificent novel and equally magnificent mini-series, Lonesome Dove.

The trip will go from San Antonio, TX to just above the Yellowstone River in Montana.   We will then swing by Medora, ND for a couple of days to reflect on what we’ve seen and done and to position ourselves to fly home.

We cannot exactly duplicate the path of Gus and Call’s drive because much of it is speculation and roads do not go where their cattle did—and we will not be fording any rivers full of rattle snakes—but we WILL be visiting the primary towns mentioned in the book.  We WILL be starting each day on the bus with a segment of the movie and we WILL be steeping ourselves in western lore—with opportunities to rope and ride and shoot—or to watch real cowboys do that.

This is our planned itinerary, subject to some fine tuning and availability of certain places and activities as many places will not make final plans until after August 15 for next year.  As always, we will stay in really nice and interesting places and eat the best food and have the most fun.
